Peter Lik gallery

I took a look at Peter Lik’s gallery in La Jolla yesterday, and I was in awe of the gorgeous prints he has on display there. This visit alone caused me to reconsider my departure from large format photography. His prints are mostly lightjet prints of high quality drum scans of his work, and for the folks in the know, this is better than the old fashioned way of printing. Lightjets from scans are a far superior way to display photographic work. The exciting thing, is seeing the public’s, and the art community’s acceptance of this type of photography at this level. I am no Peter Lik, but look out Peter Lik, here I come.

His prints were priced mostly around the $10,000 range for a 6 foot by 2 foot framed photo. Some shots were a lot more, but this seemed to be the average. There are many photographers out there with equal, or better talent, but Peter Lik has done an excellent job at marketing, and merchandising himself, another inspiration for me.

Good job Peter Lik!

I was in Las Vegas for the last two days, and it was very relaxing and lots of fun. Anytime I can actually manage to forget about work is an accomplishment in itself, and to enjoy quality family time is a bonus. We saw the Phantom of the Opera at the Venetian. The show was awesome. This is the second time we saw it, and it was just as amazing as the first time. We only came for a one nighter, and I was way to tired after the show to go out on the strip and get some good night shots, so I just hit the sack, and decided I would come back later in the year to devote some time to quality vegas shooting. Those of you that were expecting me to come back with some cool shots, sorry to dissapoint.

The next time you are in Las Vegas, and you love photography, be sure to visit the Peter Lik gallery at the Forum Shops. This guy’s prints are amazing, and are a testament to the lasting quality of large format photography. I have been saying that large format is not dead, but definitely breathing it’s last breath. I have had the pleasure of shooting with this format, and I can tell you from first hand experience that the prints from this format are breath taking, and this gallery should be a “must visit” for any photographer, or anyone that appreciates photography.
